This event fosters a sense of community by allowing families and friends to remember passed loved ones through cultural activities like a pre-start purification ceremony with Aztec dancers and decorating altars with marigold flowers, candles, photos, and memorabilia. Participants traverse a fast and scenic route offering views of the Los Angeles skyline, with options for competitive timing and awards including unique hand-painted skulls for top finishers. Donations support the preservation of Olvera Street’s traditions, enhancing the cultural and educational impact of the celebration.
